The Grenade Launcher is a support weapon used by the US Marines and Blackwatch.

Summary[]

The grenade launcher is a dangerous ranged weapon used by the Prototypes. The MGL fires its 40 mm grenades at speeds just under 250 ft/sec using a shoulder-firing mechanism with a six-round spring-driven revolver-style magazine, that is capable of accepting most 40x46mm grenades. The grenade launcher demolishes small groups of infected citizens, causing severe damage to Walkers, and stuns Hunters. When used en masse, the MGL is capable of clearing an infected area out in seconds.

Tactical overview[]

Prototype[]

Soldiers wielding grenade launchers are very dangerous thanks to the weapon's less conspicuous profile compared to the rocket launcher, and while its grenades do not track Mercer they are quick and hard to see. The grenades are not subject to physics and have a perfectly flat trajectory, allowing soldiers to "snipe" mercer from much further away than one might expect.

Prototype 2[]

Grenades fired by enemy soldiers are now on a timer. The soldier will fire it at his opponent's feet, where it will flash red for several moments before detonating; as such they only pose a threat if Heller is tied up in combat with a tougher enemy such as a Brawler. Heller and other targets can take double damage if they are hit by both the projectile and the explosion, although this is unlikely to happen as soldiers do not aim their grenades directly at the target. Note that they do not behave this way in Heller's hands, any grenades the player fires will explode on contact like in the first game.

Notes[]

The grenade launcher is powerful enough to completely dismember any civilian, military, or infected civilian, leaving only limbs and a broken ribcage.

Despite their new behavior in Prototype 2 the grenades still do not have physics applied to them. If they hit something in midair they will simply stop and float there until they explode.
